Bushfire Support

8th January 2020

It has been a sad and disastrous time for many impacted by the bushfires across the country.

YACVIC has compiled a list of useful resources for people with disability to stay safe in a bushfire and keep informed about supports.

These resources include

  • accessible guides for staying safe in a bushfire
  • respiratory health when it’s smoky outside
  • how to access emergency assistance such as emergency payments from Centrelink
  • replacing disability supports through NDIS
  • how to find emergency accessible accommodation
  • details of Disability organisation to contact for support.

It’s important to remember that the impacts of the bushfires go far beyond physical injury and property damage, and it is important to acknowledge there may also be mental harm for survivors. Anyone struggling with their experience is encouraged to ask for help from a GP or mental health worker.  More information is available on the Beyond Blue website.

Please take care of yourself and each other during this terrible time.
