Snippet:

The report ‘Building Safe and Respectful Cultures’ was a pilot research project exploring the prevention of violence, abuse and neglect of people with disability in Victoria. The research team included community researchers with lived experience of disability, including current President of Brain Injury Matters Francesca Lee.
Ms Lee noted that many people did not raise concerns for fear that speaking up may have a negative impact on the way they are treated in the future.

DSC Statement on a Disability Royal Commission

Snippet:

As the Disability Services Commissioner, I welcome the decision to establish a Royal Commission into abuse of people with disability and the release of the draft terms of reference for consultation.

Too many people with disability have been abused. We have all heard the stories, and my office has reviewed and investigated too many cases where people with disability have been abused, assaulted, neglected, and otherwise badly treated.
